Italy’s leading sparkling wine producer Ferrari Trento achieves carbon neutrality for its 120th anniversary
May 31, 2022Ferrari Trento is reinforcing its commitment towards sustainability for this year’s anniversary celebrations by becoming a carbon neutral company.
Ferrari Trento is an Italian leading producer for sparkling wine, a family business founded in 1902 which is run today in the third generation by the Lunelli family. Established as a representation of the Italian “Art of Living”, Ferrari Trento’s sparkling wine accompanies people’s most memorable moments in life across the worlds of business, culture, entertainment, and sport.
The company has always been aware of its responsibility towards society as well as the environment and has acted accordingly: in 2010 Ferrari took action to save energy in their business operations through the installation of a photovoltaic plant on the winery’s roof. In support of a more sustainable approach towards agriculture, all vineyards owned by the Lunelli family have been certified as organic in 2017.
Carbon neutrality marks the next milestone on their sustainability path
To become carbon neutral as a business Ferrari Trento has teamed up with ClimatePartner. In close collaboration they have calculated Ferrari Trento’s Corporate Carbon Footprint, following international standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Through reduction measures such as switching to electricity from renewable sources, Ferrari Trento has lowered emissions in its business operations. Furthermore, the business compensates unabated emissions through the support of a wind energy project in Brazil to achieve carbon neutrality. This includes emissions in scope 1 and 2, and partially scope 3, taking also responsibility for emissions caused by activities such as business travel and employee commuting. Ferrari Trento has already offset over 1,100 tonnes of CO2 through their support of the certified carbon offset project.
Matteo Lunelli, President and CEO of Ferrari Trento, comments the achievement of the next milestone on their sustainability path: “For 120 years our winery has had a virtuous relationship with its local area, which we are extremely keen to promote and protect. Attention to sustainability has always been part of our way of running our business and the reduction and compensation of CO2 emissions is a further sign of this commitment, which we share with the whole of our team. As we celebrate our history, we also want to look towards the future: it is therefore our responsibility to contribute to the battle against climate change.”
