Vasco cooperates with ClimatePartner for enabling more climate-friendly shipping

August 23, 2021

The provider of risk management solutions for the logistics industry has started a cooperation with ClimatePartner to allow shipowners to better manage their carbon emissions with the aim of becoming carbon neutral.

To give shipowners an in-advance information about the carbon emissions-related costs of their shipments, ClimatePartner has provided data on how much carbon is emitted per metric ton of each different fuel type that is used in maritime shipping. For this, ClimatePartner draws on its 15-years’ experience in carbon foot-printing and emissions calculation as well as using reference data from recognized governing bodies such as the International Maritime Organization. Vasco’s software will enable the user to see how much carbon they will be emitting for each voyage prior to fixing the ship. Finally, the user will have the option to offset these emissions via ClimatePartner´s high-quality carbon offset projects.

Using modern technology Vasco has created a platform which enables commercial freight and fleet management to view their positions from a forward-looking perspective whilst managing their day-to-day operations in a digitized and efficient manner. With a global focus on reducing greenhouse gases, Vasco’s emissions functionality gives shipowners the option to be carbon neutral, allowing them to be at the forefront of GHG strategies.

Jenny Oakes, Carbon Offset & Green Energy Services at ClimatePartner: „The shipping industry is the backbone of the global economy. As business all over the world start to understand their responsibility for taking on climate action, also the shipping industry plays a vital role when it comes to the carbon footprint of goods. We are therefore very happy to partner with Vasco on this new venture in the shipping markets. We believe that through this partnership, ClimatePartner and Vasco will allow shipping companies to further address their climate goals and move one step closer to decarbonising not only the shipping industry but also to become a positive asset within holistic climate strategies.”

Tim Spragg, Managing Director at Vasco Systems: „We are extremely excited to be cooperating with Climate Partner by using their expertise and experience in the Carbon market and Vasco’s knowledge in shipping can only be positive to help tackle and manage carbon footprints in shipping”.
