15 years of ClimatePartner

January 28, 2021

What began as a start-up 15 years ago in Munich has since developed into a company with nine offices in five countries. Under the leadership of Moritz Lehmkuhl and Tristan A. Foerster, ClimatePartner has become a leading international expert and solutions provider when it comes to holistic corporate climate action.

In January 2006, Moritz Lehmkuhl was able to make his dream come true: in ClimatePartner he launched a company that helped other companies to take on climate action. The aim: to improve the living conditions of people, animals and plants on this planet. The climate and the world should be worth living in, for both present and future generations.

To make this a reality, we support companies in calculating and mitigating the carbon emissions from their business and production operations. We help set comprehensive climate action strategies involving avoidance and reduction plans. Finally, for all unavoidable emissions we enable compensating through certified carbon offset projects. All this is combined into an innovative solution, which makes it as easy as possible for companies to follow this pragmatic path of climate action.

Established and effective: our climate neutral label

Now, 15 years later, more than 3,000 companies from 35 countries are collaborating with us. From start-ups and craft businesses to mid-sized companies and international corporations, companies in nearly every sector rely on our support when it comes to taking on climate action. They can demonstrate this with our “climate neutral” label on their products and in their communications.

Several million tonnes of carbon are offset through certified carbon offset projects every year – and this trend is growing. Our work also generates enormous added value in terms of development aid and health provision in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together with our clients, we are protecting rainforests, planting trees, promoting renewable sources of energy such as: hydroelectricity, solar power and wind power, and providing clean drinking water to remove the need to burn wood to boil water in rural developing communities.

More presence, even greater leverage

For most companies, climate neutrality is the starting point for other environmental and climate action measures. Accordingly, we are also broadening our range of solutions and continuously expanding our resources and areas of expertise. By the end of the year, we are planning on expanding our team – which has now grown to 150 employees – by at least another 100 people and opening new offices and branches in France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the USA.

That way, we can help even more companies become active in climate action. The goal is clear: making it as easy as possible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and leave behind a world worth living in for future generations.
