ClimatePartner joins the Consultative Group of the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets

November 2, 2020

ClimatePartner is a new member of the Consultative Group of the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets. The Taskforce was initiated by Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy on Climate Change, in the run-up to the next world climate summit COP26. Its aim is to further develop the voluntary carbon market and thus contribute to achieving the climate targets agreed in the Paris Climate Summit. In order for these targets to be achieved, the market size needs to be increased by a factor of 15 to 20 by 2030.

The Taskforce and its advisory group is composed of representatives of more than 90 companies and organisations from a wide range of sectors, including project developers and suppliers, buyers, financial institutions and other service providers. With almost 15 years of experience supporting well over 2,700 companies in offsetting and reducing their CO2 emissions, ClimatePartner has first-class expertise, which will now be made available to the Taskforce.

Dr. Sascha Lafeld, Head of Carbon Offset and Green Energy Services at ClimatePartner: "More and more companies are committing to offsetting and reducing their emissions, and the financial markets are also increasingly demanding clear plans to achieve the climate targets set in Paris. Voluntary emissions trading is one of the key instruments for this. We are pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the further development of this market within this framework".

The consultation phase of the Taskforce runs from 10 November to 24 November. A final report is due to be published in January 2021. After this, the Taskforce will support pilot projects and initiatives to be presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos in summer 2021.
