A.S. Watson and ClimatePartner enter a structural collaboration and develop Kruidvat’s first carbon neutral diaper

January 28, 2022

ClimatePartner and the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer, A.S. Watson, have entered into a structural collaboration and created A.S. Watson’s first carbon neutral diaper, under their Kruidvat brand.

“Our Pure & Soft diaper gives parents the chance to opt for a vital product that will also contribute to a better future for their child,” says Leendert van Bergeijk, CSR Manager at A.S. Watson Benelux. “The carbon neutrality that we have achieved for these diapers in collaboration with ClimatePartner contributes to this to an important extent.”

ClimatePartner first calculated the Product Carbon Footprint – which is the total number of greenhouse gases released during the life cycle of a product – using international standards. Emissions for the Pure & Soft diaper were reduced by relying on 100% renewable electricity and renewable materials, such as sugar cane, for the production of the diaper.

Kruidvat offsets its residual emissions by supporting forest protection projects in Peru and Uganda. Supporting these projects helps to prevent the clearing of forests, which in turn helps to maintain the forests in the long term and allows them to continue to store CO2. In addition, the three supported projects contribute to 16 out of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Not only this, but The Pure & Soft diaper also meets all the standards of the EU Ecolabel and the Forest Stewardship Council norm.

This pilot project is just the beginning for our partnership with A.S. Watson.
